FAREWELL TO A FIR-TREE, December

The project "Farewell to a Fir-tree" is dedicated to the theme of man's existence in the city, to his moral principles and devotion to the rituals, to ecology and loneliness. During a few years the author has been watching New Year's trees thrown out in Moscow streets and yards. Then for two years he has been taking photos of the dead trees thrown out near his house. Last March he took a dead fir-tree off one of the trees under his window and buried it in Tsaritsino cemetry. The film running for 1.5 min., is dedicated to this very event. It will be shown on a big screen in repeating mode. On the walls there will be presented 20 color photographs, 30x40cm, indicating where and when he had taken them. Also, there will be some literary texts describing a fir-tree as a live being.

The film was among 10 best short films at "Depict" Festival in Bristol in 2000 and it was included in a CD-rom of the British Film Academy for the students of British film institutes.
