2001

Malmqvist Anita, West Ulla

December 6 – 13

Anita Malmqvist and Ulla West are working in the field of digital and new media art in Sweden. They are connected to CRAC, Creative Room for Art and Computing, a medialab for artists situated in Stockholm, Sweden.

Their work has been shown on the Swedish and the international artscene. In the exhibition OUT OF SIGHT OUT OF MIND at Art Media Centre TV Gallery they will show their first collaboration project. The project is supported from Swedish Institute and IASPIS (International Artistst Studio Program In Stockholm).

Out of sight out of mind is an old saying, meaning: what you do not see do not exist.

This interactive DVD piece shown at Art Media Center "TV Gallery" are dealing with questions concerning the meaning of the saying. Two TV monitors, one facing the wall, the other facing the room are corresponding with each other. The film shown in the monitors are visible only as a reflection on the wall or as coded pictures. The viewers are refused to see the actual film and have to create their own images from hearing the soundtrack. It is an interactive game where the visitors have to collaborate with each other to be able to get a glimpse of the movie. Knowledge in film history is a clue to the understanding of this piece. One of the tasks for the project is to point out the importance of the sound for building of meanings. Anita and Ulla show you your pictures of the unknown.
