ART MOSCOW
2002

The International Programme "ART MOSCOW" is an annual contemporary art forum, including the International Art Fair, which unites galleries with international reputations. The Programme "ART MOSCOW" is a colloquium in which prominent theorists, critics and curators actively participate. It also includes a large number of exhibitions representing visual art traditions from Western and Eastern Europe and the countries of the former USSR, as well as international curators’ projects.

In addition, as it is a regular event, "ART MOSCOW" has become a cornerstone of the Russian contemporary art market and it enables galleries to carry out their activities along the same lines as those of the international art world.

It has become a policy for "ART MOSCOW" to invite well-known foreign galleries to participate in their programme. This emphasises "ART MOSCOW"’s aesthetic reputation. Among "ART MOSCOW 2001" participants are: Aidan Gallery, Guelman Gallery, TV Gallery, XL Gallery (Moscow), Diehl Gallery (Berlin), Paula Boettcher Gallery (Berlin), Knoll gallery Vienna & Budapest (Vienna), Caravan (Berlin) etc.

The Russian Ministry of Culture and the Moscow Committee of Culture have granted their permanent support to "ART MOSCOW", thus confirming its great and long lasting reputation.

The Colloquium "ART MOSCOW 2001" lasted for three days. Well-known art critics and curators such as Hou Hanru, Vasif Kortun, and Brano Dimitrijevich gave lectures. They represented their visions of art world transformations in the 90s, when the concepts of the global world and 'post-internet' art practice were created.

The Colloquium was an opportunity for Moscow’s professional art community to plunge into debates about contemporary issues in a highly intellectual atmosphere. It also placed Russian contemporary art firmly on the international stage.

The next Colloquium "ART MOSCOW 2002" will be held from April 24-26, 2002.

Art Moscow 2002 Expert Council: Joseph Backstein (ICA Moscow), Viktor Misiano (Khudozhestvenny zhurnal), Marat Guelman (Guelman Gallery, Moscow), Volker Diehl (Diehl Gallery, Berlin), Hans Knoll (Knoll gallery Vienna & Budapest, Vienna), Christian Nagel (Gallery Christian Nagel, Cologne), Aidan Salakhova (Aidan Gallery, Moscow), Elena Selina (XL-Gallery, Moscow)

"ART MOSCOW 2002" – the 6-th International Art Fair will take place at one the most prestigious Moscow exhibition halls, the Central House of Artists which covers an area of over 8000 square meters. The organizers will provide participants with all necessary information concerning Russian museums, corporate collections and offer a cultural program for guests including visits to museums, galleries and sightseeing tours.
